Research by the College of Animal Science and Technology, China Agricultural University, has shown that the dry matter intake of fattening cattle fed steam-exploded corn stalks, wheat stalks, and rice straw and yellow stored corn stalks increased by 14.5%, 12.5%, and 15.5%, respectively, and the monthly weight gain increased by 2.8%, 6%, and 12.4%, respectively. Slaughter experiments showed that using steam-exploded straw as a roughage to replace yellow stored corn stalks in feeding beef cattle had no significant effect on slaughter performance and meat quality.
